東平湖は山東省で二番目に大きい淡水湖で、宋代の「百里涼山水湖」の唯一残る水域である。湖の総面積は655平方キロメートル、常用水面は209平方キロメートル、平均水深は2メートルである。湖は三方を山に囲まれ、景色が美しく、水質が豊かで、湖産物が豊富である。鯉、鰭、亀など50種類以上の魚介類、ヒシ、ヒシ、レンコンなど十数種類の水生植物が生息している。その美しく豊富な自然資源により、早くも唐代には「小さな洞庭」という名声を得ていた。東平湖には水滸伝の英雄たちの活躍に関する遺跡や物語が数多く残されており、山東省の「水滸伝」観光ルートで必ず訪れるべき場所です。

Dongping Lake is the only remaining body of water of 800 miles described in "Water Margin", with cultural relics and historical sites scattered along the lake: on the east bank of the lake is the residence of Song Jiang, the heroic leader of Water Margin, when he attacked Dongping Prefecture City, there is the burial place of Liu Cang, the King of Dongping in the Later Han Dynasty, and his descendants, and the "Huangshi Cliff", one of the eight ancient sceneries of Dongping; on the west bank is the famous ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, there is Siri Mountain, where the Water Margin hero Chao Gai and other heroes first gathered, there is La Mountain, a national forest park, and the "Yueyan Temple" built in the seventh year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty; on the north bank is the "Chenggong Temple" of Cheng Yaojin, a great general of the Tang Dynasty, the cemetery of "King of Chu", a leader of the famous peasant uprising, there is the scenic Huashan scenic spot, and there is the Hongdingshan Cliff Inscriptions written by An Daoyi, a famous monk of the Northern Qi Dynasty; in the southeast of the lake is the site of Lejiao Pool Pavilion built by Liu Chang, the prefect of Dongping County in the Song Dynasty, and the Qingshui Stone Bridge built in the Sui Dynasty is also buried under the water of Dongping Lake.
